A Holistic Psychotherapist holds the belief that it is important to look beyond the words. A Holistic practitioner believes that it is essential to attend to the mind, body, and spirit in order to help someone to heal and grow in a deep way, in order to make long lasting change.
This practitioner believes that when you attend to the whole person, only then can you achieve harmony and balance and full freedom.
What Does A Holistic Psychotherapist Do?
A holistic psychotherapist attends to the mind, body, and the spirit, as we are all three.
It is not only what is in your mind that could be holding you back from living freely and peacefully (like old outdated learned behavior and beliefs), but also what is unconsciously held in the cells of the body. The next layer is getting to know the higher spiritual lessons that are being presented to you, in order to help you to learn and grow from, for our soul’s evolution.
There are many techniques that are used in order to attend to each of these. Some include the breath, centering, grounding, getting to know your feelings.
What Makes A Good Holistic Therapist?
A good therapist is someone you can feel safe with, but also supports you to change and grow.
It is critical to listen to your own intuition and find someone that is present, listens well, is experienced, and is open and non-judgmental.
It is important to know that a therapist is not a friend. A therapist is there to help you to learn, heal, grow, and not enable you to stay so comfortable and safe, that you don’t take risks.
It is when we expand into discomfort, and explore difficult areas in our lives, reaching out of our comfort zones, that we can elevate ourselves fully.
How Do I Find A Good Therapist?
The best way to find a therapist when you are ready, is to begin asking those around you (that value their personal growth and are on the path of personal enlightenment) for a referral that has helped them or a family member or friend.
If you feel someone around you acts in ways you admire, and seems well adjusted and evolved, check with them to find out if they can recommend a good therapist.
There is no shame in getting help. There is strength in admitting that we can let ourselves receive help, guidance, and support from a professional that has wisdom in the field in order to enhance your path of self discovery and self awareness.
If there is no one you can ask, then you can begin to explore various websites online, read their material and that persons philosophies.
Make calls, talk to the therapist, and explore your comfort level with each. It is perfectly fine to make one appointment to see how it feels to work with that person. You are always free to make another choice until such time it feels like the right fit for you. Trust yourself!
